MUAR: A Johor DAP leader has filed a suit against 17 of his own party members for allegedly defaming him.

He claimed that his reputation had been seriously damaged and that he had suffered considerable distress and embarrassment due to the accusation.

He claimed an unspecified amount in damages from the 17, including general loss of business as an insurance agent, interest and other costs.

The 17 defendants in the suit are Bukit Gambir and Bandar Maharani DAP branch members Ng Cheng Heng, Lim Chiong, Ong Jee Moi, See Ka Kit, Lee Tiong Kang @ Lee Tiong King, Ong Yam Poo and Lee Fu Kaw.

Also named were Rose Chen Yeok Ling, Elizabeth Ooi Chui Yeun, Ea Ah Tee, Ng Huat Guan, Lu Yong Lam, Lee Fu Haw, Tio Lian Hua, Tan Soo Kee, Tey Ming Bok and Tan Pee Kee @ Tan Guat Pek.

Gwee holds a number of posts in the Johor DAP including that of state publicity secretary, Muar service centre chairman and Bentayan branch chairman. He is also a DAP Socialist Youth National executive council member.

The alleged defamation was over the purchase of a building in Taman Sakih Baru, Jalan Sakih, here for the party's district service centre.
